Hong Kong 2012 Dragon and Lion Dance Extravaganza

I already missed the awesome HK 2012 New Year’s Eve Fireworks, I figure I shouldn’t miss this dragon dance parade on the first day of 2012!

Discovery Hong Kong has the background:

There are few, if any, better examples of Hong Kong’s living culture. This festival will amaze you with a once-in-a-lifetime Chinese traditional dragon dance parade involving 88 dragons and 50 lions. The parade starts at Chater Road in Central, continues along the Hennessy Road, and finished in the Southern Playground in Wanchai.

And it is a record-breaking event! Former Guinness World Record for biggest number of dragons dancing at the same time was 55, and this show has reset the record to 88!

I managed to take a video at the beginning of the parade. Forgive me on recording this video while moving:

I’m surprised to see those kids are involved in the dragon dancing as well!

After all the dragons and lions had passed us, we moved our steps to the main stage to enjoy some of these really entertaining performances:

Lovely to see these kindergarten kids dancing to the song Kungfu Fighting:

Thanks Fili!! The second and the third pic look like they’ve been horizontally compressed tho…We should have stayed somewhere near the main stage 😛
