The Exchange Activity Committee(EAC) held this, called the Amazing Race – HKUST version two weeks ago on Mar 23. I’ve been busying so I haven’t been able to get down to my computer and create this blog until now.
It’s like a HKUST rendition of the original TV show The Amazing Race, and in case you have no idea what that show is about, Wikipedia’s page of The Amazing Race friendly reads:
The Amazing Race is a reality televisiongame show in which teams of two people, who have some form of a preexisting personal relationship, race around the world in competition with other teams. Contestants strive to arrive first at “pit stops” at the end of each leg of the race to win prizes and to avoid coming in last, which carries the possibility of elimination or a significant disadvantage in the following leg (segment). Contestants travel to and within multiple countries in a variety of transportation modes, including planes, balloons, helicopters, trucks, bicycles, taxicabs, rental cars, Jeepneys, trains, buses, boats, and by foot.
In our HKUST edition akin to the original show, however, we didn’t limit our contestants to ‘pre-existed relationship of two people’, rather we had them divided into group of 6 to 7, almost without pre-existed relationships. The first thing they did is:
Yes, you guessed it. The contestants need to have strangers put on those ridiculous clothes and take picture with him/her.
This is not yet the biggest challenge. After this, the second clue led them to LG5, where they are presented a challenged in which they have to dance to a predefined music, until EITHER they’ve got 4 strangers joining them dancing, OR, until the end of the music.
This challenge definitely created massive detour, and a huge sensation around the LG5 area.
We’ll give credits to the person who think of this GREAT idea, Avelyn! Also, courtesy to my floormate Jinwoo who lend us his super sick speakers so that we could play loud music.
The challenge afterwards are three-legged race in LG7 walkway area, and we played Charades when backed in LG4 common room. The pizza delivery was unfortunately late(actually it was just because the contestants all finished the challenges much faster than we’ve expected), so we ended up played some random games like taboo to kill the time.
And the result was out, winners went to:
Congrads on them.
The event has been a blast!
And the event couldn’t have been successful were it not for my lovely teammates:
